My printer was unplugged before being powered off. It keeps showing that error. After clearing the error, and even powering it off and then back on correctly, it also shows a paper jam. There is absolutely no paper jam. I've rest the paper as well. reseated everything. It printed a few times after clicking OK each time. But then it stared printing like it was low on black ink. computer shows it's got plenty of ink. I tried to do the scan doctor, and after restarting my computer it would not move past Device Status. I kept showing the power down error. So I tried to restart the printer and it's been " powering down " for 30 minutes now!

Hi @jameyo,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like you are encountering several issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer. Here are some steps you can try to resolve these problems.
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for a few minutes (around 5-10 minutes).
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
Check for Paper Jams:
- Open all access doors and check for any bits of paper stuck in the printer.
- Make sure there are no small pieces of torn paper left inside.
- Use a flashlight to inspect all areas, including the paper tray and the ink cartridge area.
Reset the Printer:
- Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer while it is still turned on.
- Wait for a minute, then plug the power cord back in.
- Turn the printer back on.
Update Firmware:
- Visit the HP support website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model.
- If an update is available, follow the instructions to update the firmware.
Check Ink Levels:
- Open the HP Printer Assistant or HP Solution Center on your computer.
- Check the ink levels and make sure they are sufficient.
- If necessary, replace any low or empty ink cartridges with genuine HP cartridges.
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the official HP website.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix printing and scanning problems.
Factory Reset:
- As a last resort, you can perform a factory reset on your printer. Be aware that this will erase any custom settings.
- Refer to your printer manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
