Recently my printer will not allow printing in color. Mostly when i'm in "Photos". I'm only give the black & white and Grayscale options. No color options. When I try to go into the devices "printer preferences" I get the subject exception code as well as it stating
I have tried "everything", deleting and adding back the drivers, deleting the printer itself and adding it back, removing HP Smart and readding that. Turned printer off and back on. Removed the ink cartridges and replaced them. Cleaned the print heads (of which the sheet that prints out has color). Nothing is working,. I'm ready to toss the last of my HP products since you get no support from them. I'm continuing to pay for Instant Ink, but ready to toss that too. PLEASE HELP!

I'm really sorry you're having trouble with your HP ENVY 4520, and I appreciate the detailed steps you've already tried. Let's go ahead and try the following workaround to restore color printing:
1. Fully Uninstall Printer Drivers and HP Smart:
Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
Uninstall HP Smart and any HP-related drivers or software listed.
Restart your computer.
2. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor from this link:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/topic/diagnostics
Let it auto-detect and fix driver or print queue issues.
3. Reinstall Full Feature Software:
Go to the official HP driver page for the ENVY 4520:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers
Enter your printer model (HP ENVY 4520) and Windows 11.
Download and install the Full Feature Software and Driver.
4. Check Color Settings Manually:
Open any document/photo > File > Print > Printer Properties.
Under the Color tab (or Advanced), make sure:
Color is selected (not grayscale or B&W).
Try switching between Print in Color and Auto.
5. Test Print from Paint or Word:
Open Paint, draw something in color, and try printing.
If this works, the issue might be with the Photos app, not the printer.
6. Optional: Add Printer Using TCP/IP Port
If you're using Wi-Fi:
Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners > Add a printer.
Choose “The printer I want isn't listed”, then pick “Add by TCP/IP address”.
Enter your printer's IP (can be found on the printer's display or HP Smart app).
