Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

My printer has started to do something called flattening. What the heck is that? Is it necessary? Can I delete it somehow?

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Where do you see the error message on the printer or computer?

Are you facing this issue while making a copy or scan?

Can you print from the computer?

 

Try to make a copy and check if the copy is working fine.
