I have an Officejet Pro 7740. My computer is an iMac running 10.14.5. I have a wireless router and modem by Uverse. One of their techs came out because the wifi is not dependable. He checked everything and we reset a new User ID and password.
I have numerous wifi gadgets and was resetting all of them getting to my printer last. For some time now the printer touch screen shows most settings locked out by ADMIN. I AM the ADMIN. I keep track of my ID's and passwords, even pulled out the original paperwork on the printer and found nowhere that I had created a User ID and password. Since I could not set up the new wireless settings or even try to reset to Factory settings, I deleted everything about the printer on my iMac, then attempted to downloaded the software for the 7740. Even using the Hostname it would not recognize my printer. I followed someone's instructions here to unplug the back of the printer, then the cord, then press the power button for 30 seconds and this would do a hard reset when I restarted the printer. It did not.
As you can see below this is my second post. So far no response. I sent a message to an HP employee, only because this person had posted that he would send a private message to someone else with the same problem on how to fix it.
Then I was sent an email that it was not ok to send messages but to post to the community. Tends to be a bit confusing when there is an option to send messages. I truly would appreciate some help with this before I call HP a second time only to get a sales pitch to buy another printer and no assurances that for $19.95 he could help me.

@Doodette, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Resetting the printer to its factory settings may resolve this issue.
- The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
- I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

Sorry I did not reply when you first posted this. I called HP TECH support a d your instructions are exactly what we did. Up and running fine now. It may be big and bulky but it is a good all in one printer. Does a great job with photos as well!
Thanks!

Contact Kumar 0307. I went through the exact same issue also with Uverse. Worst wifi I have ever dealt with. You will never find the full reset instructions anywhere on HP Site which in itself is unfair. Also got the response to be aware of fake HP employees. He can help. When I called HP prepared to pay the tech support fee the guy was so nice he did not charge me!
