Hi @Polarbaer7,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you’re seeing an error message indicating a "failed printhead" on your HP printer, it means that the printer is having trouble with one or more of its printheads. This issue can stem from a variety of causes, such as a misalignment, obstruction, or hardware failure. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Press the power button to turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet.:
  • Leave the printer unplugged for about 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.

2. Check and Reinstall the Printheads

  • Open the printer’s access door to reach the printhead area. Refer to your printer’s manual if needed.
  • Carefully remove the printheads from their slots. The printheads are usually held in place by a latch or clip.
  • Check for any visible damage or debris on the printheads. Gently clean the printhead contacts with a soft, lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
  • Wipe the electrical contacts on the printhead and inside the printer where the printheads make contact. Be careful not to touch the nozzles.
  • Reinsert the printheads into their slots, ensuring they are properly seated and secured.
  • Close the access door and wait for the printer to recognize the printheads.

3. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

  • Check the paper path and remove any jammed paper or debris.
  • Make sure there are no foreign objects blocking the printhead movement.

4. Update Printer Firmware

  • Go to HP’s support website and search for your printer model.
  • Download the latest firmware and drivers for your printer and follow the instructions to install them.

5. Perform a Printhead Alignment

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
