I have not used this printer for a while.  But it worked when I last used it.  I replaced the ink cartridges, and provided new paper.  The printer starts up fine, the front opens/rises automatically, the paper extender deploys smoothly, but then I get the warning message Problem Moving Extender "To enable the paper output tray extender to move properly, remove anything that might be in the way."  Clearly this is a false message, as the extender is already deployed.  The printer will not allow anything to happen until this error is corrected.  I have inspected for any obstructions and found none, and clearly the extended does deploy.  Help please.

Hi @Richspar,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP ENVY 114 e-All-in-One Printer is encountering a false error related to the paper extender, despite the extender deploying correctly and no apparent obstructions. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on. This can help reset any internal errors.

Check for Stuck Paper or Debris:

  • Even if you've already checked for obstructions, it's worth inspecting the paper path and the extender area again, ensuring nothing is stuck or misaligned.
  • Look for any small pieces of paper or dust that could be triggering the sensor.

Reset the Printer:

  • Perform a factory reset on the printer to clear any software-related issues:
    • On the printer, tap the Wireless icon, go to Settings, and look for a Reset or Restore Defaults option.
    • Alternatively, press and hold the Cancel and Wi-Fi buttons for a few seconds, then release them to reset.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • If the printer can connect to your network, check for any available firmware updates. Sometimes a firmware update can resolve erroneous error messages.
  • You can check through the printer's menu or by visiting HP's official website to download updates.

Manually Move the Extender:

  • Try gently moving the paper extender back and forth while the printer is powered on. Sometimes, the mechanism can become a bit sticky after not being used for a while, and manually moving it may help free up any small issues.

Unclog the Paper Tray:

  • Inspect the paper tray to ensure the papers are loaded properly and the tray is not too full. Sometimes, misalignment in the paper tray can affect the sensor, causing error messages.

Clear the Printer's Memory:

  • On the printer's screen, navigate to the Setup or Tools section, and look for the Clear Printer's Memory option to remove any lingering error states that might be causing the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
