HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 printer (all in one), connected via wireless network.

When using the document feeder, for either copying or scanning, the pages go through and then I get an error message and the feeder continues grinding and make noises. The functions of copying and scanning using the feeder work fine, but the printer just makes the grinding noise for several minutes following the task and I get the error message below. I have done a factory reset, but the problem persists.

 

Error Message: " The document feeder was not able to pick up the original. Make sure the document feeder cover is closed completely, load the original in the document feeder and try again."

 

The printer is no longer under warranty so HP won't offer support without charge, so I am relying on this community for help.  Please, does anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it?

Some places to check...

ADF could be dirty or the printer could need cleaning inside.

ADF might not like the paper - test a job with "known good" paper (take some paper from the printer tray, for example).

ADF might be broken - this is least likely, but can happen.
