OfficeJet Pro X476dw MFP
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Intro: 4 years ago I bought a couple of printers on clearance at an office supply store - put the HP x476dw in storage (printed a couple of test pages, etc first) My other daily use printer finally gave up the ghost.

Yesterday: took the HP x476dw out of storage, powered it on, connected it to wifi using the front panel display. I had it on for an hour or so because I was taking my time. Now getting ready to set up laptop to use it.

Went to the web interface of the printer to look around. Saw an option to check for updates. Chose to, it downloaded and installed the update. It has been unusable ever since. After about 15 minutes of not being able to refresh/login to the web interface I power cycled the printer. Power switch did not work, had to unplug replug.

At reboot I get an error that the printhead is missing 0x6fd003d AND the printer locks up within a minute or two and needs to be power cycled again. If I work quickly i can/could get into menus, etc. But within two minutes it will completely lock at whatever menu I am in. If i did nothing it would lock at menu/error message.

Went (quickly) into tools and did a factory reset. Now, I am stuck at at step two in setup where it asks me to load paper in tray two. And after a minute or so, it locks and will not respond. There is paper in tray two. I am not "seeing" the printhead error, but I can't really tell since I see nothing but the initial setup screens.

So basically, it was powered on, responsive menus, able to configure wifi, able to use web menus, etc. for an hour or two UNTIL i did an update from the Web UI , now I have a useless printer that will not initialize, and locks hard within two minutes. I did not actually print when I had it powered on this time, but there were still pages on it from when i put it into storage a couple years back. I have apparently bricked a basically unused x476dw by attempting a firmware update.

Is there any way to boot to the old firmware? any options that anyone knows of?

Oh - the ink cartridges that are in it are SETUP cartridges. I realize now that they are not supposed to be using those, and there are some reports that they can cause issues. I believe this printer was a floor model but it was working fine when i stored it, and appeared fine up until I attempted the firmware update.

Good Afternoon,

Hope you are fine, due to the trouble experienced,  take out the cartridges, shake them a little bit, make sure printer is connected to the wall and restart the machine, If its still getting 0x6fd003d errors, you may need to take the printer into repair center for check up.

Regards,
