For  HP Envy Photo 7858 AIO (K7S00A)  Bought new authentic HP 64  Tricolor and Black cartridges.

Installed cartridges and it won't recognize cartridges and get this printer get error

"Use SETUP cartridges that came with your printer"   I do not have the SETUP cartridges.

When trying to figure it out, on startup it gave a screen to select language, etc., then when finished gave the same printer error message.

How can I fix this issue so I can use the printer for school?  Super Important and Time Sensitive.

Thank you!

Hi @Oceanstarz,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with that error, especially when you need the printer for school! Here are some steps to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the "Use SETUP cartridges that came with your printer" error on your HP Envy Photo 7858 AIO.

Check Cartridge Installation:

  • Make sure the cartridges are installed correctly. Remove the cartridges and reinsert them, ensuring they click into place.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Update Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates using the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.

Use Original HP Cartridges:

  • Verify that the cartridges are authentic HP cartridges. Sometimes third-party or refilled cartridges can cause issues.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts:

  • Use a lint-free cloth or a coffee filter slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer where the cartridges connect. Make sure to let them dry completely before reinstalling.

Check for Protective Tape:

  • Ensure that any protective tape or plastic from the cartridges has been removed.

Try Different Cartridges:

  • If possible, try using another set of cartridges to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the cartridges themselves are defective.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • With the printer powered on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet. Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn the printer back on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
