Hi

Until a week ago my printer was working fine. A week ago it started printing out only a few lines and that too unreadable (see attached photo).

  • Both cartridges were changed 1-2 months ago and have over 80% ink
  • Today I ran the various clean functions on the printer and now it is printing almost blank pages with a few smudges on them
  • I tried printing a "Form" from the printer. It printed out a Sudoku perfectly.
  • I ran the printer alignment function and it printed out the alignment page perfectly.
  • But documents from 2 separate computers are not printing.
  • I tried using the eprint feature and emailed a file to it - but the same problem.
  • I have tried both word docs and pdf files. Same issue.

Can someone please help?

Thanks!

Hi! @StrohlP, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand when you print from your printer the text is getting cut off from the printouts.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Does the issue persist when you make a copy from your printer?

Have you tried printing from a different application? Does the issue persist?

Have you tried checking with a different brand paper?

As you mentioned when you print from your printer the text is getting cut off from the printouts.

Try the steps recommended below.

There is one setting in the driver which you can check. It's called Preserve Layout. Make sure that it is set to Yes.

You can find this setting here: Start>Devices and Printers>Your printer driver>
Right click and go to Printer Preferences>Advanced

If the copy works fine try uninstalling the printer drivers from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software and check if it helps.

In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

Select your HP printer.

Select Uninstall.

In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.

In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”

Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.

Type printui.exe /s and click OK.

Click on Drivers tab.

Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

Select OK.

Update the full feature printer software using this link: https://hp.care/2xUzjam

Also, if the issue persists install windows built-in drivers and check if it works.

Thanks for your reply, MrRobot. I tried what you suggested and I also soaked the cartridges in warm water for a few minutes. I think the problem was the black cartridge was leaking a little inasmuch as ink was continuing to come out as I rubbed it with my finger.

I finally replaced the black cartridge and it's working fine. Do you know if I can get a refund for my faulty black cartridge? Or a free replacement?
