I’ve been using this feature for the past few years and have recommended HP printers for this very feature to people I know with small print jobs who just print things out at the office or at friends.

This was the exact reason I bought the printer - to just print out the occasional document without having to get someone I know with a printer to do it. I found the subscription allowed me to easily use it for the one or two pages a month I tend to need. When I needed more pages I paid for the extra pages . While I’ve invariably used more pages dealing with the frustration of printing multiple times after banding and ink smears and test pages and calibrations I didn’t complain as I still felt the limitations worth it.

Those frustrations don’t seem so appealing when I’m being charged for it though. So yes, it might be “only” $1 a month (or $1.25 in Canada) but it does really sour me on the company when I was given a free for life printing to suddenly be charged for it. It wasn’t what I had agreed to and I don’t think it’s even worth it unless someone is printing their max every month. And that’s certainly not me, nor the people I recommended it to.

I received an email today that they will honor the “lifetime of printer” clause. Interestingly enough, my 1 1/2 year old printer suddenly stopped printing in color this week and tech support says it will need to repaired or replaced

Demand new ink! I had not been sent ink since December 2017 after registering my printer. Ink levels showed adequate. NO! They had dried out. I was sent new ink and presto! Printing issues resolved.

Same problem but I haven't received an email about free plan continuation. Need to do something ? One week left before unsubscribe 😞

In short, did not have same experience by phone.  Make long story short, on expiration day, received e-mail saying I would continue to receive free print.  That was it in a nutshell other than someone, HP, ???, removed my post and replaced it with yours followed by two chats from someone reading the fine print of the contract.  Glad to hear they grandfathered you!
