Hi @JAMARTIN1, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your HP Pro 8600 printer. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the "General Printer Failure" message:

1️⃣ Power Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait 2-3 minutes to allow the printer’s internal components to reset.
  • Plug the power cable directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Turn the printer back on and check if the error persists.

2️⃣ Check for Paper Jams

  • Open all access panels and carefully inspect for jammed paper, torn pieces, or debris.
  • Ensure no paper is stuck in the printhead path.
  • Close everything properly and restart the printer.

3️⃣ Reseat the Printhead

  • Open the printer’s cartridge access door.
  • Remove all ink cartridges.
  • Lift the printhead latch and carefully remove the printhead.
  • Wipe the electrical contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Reinstall the printhead and cartridges, ensuring everything is securely seated.

4️⃣ Update Firmware

  • Visit the HP Support Website and download the latest firmware for the Officejet Pro 8600.
  • Install it using the HP Smart app or the HP Printer Update Utility.

5️⃣ Perform a Semi-Full Reset

⚠️ This will reset all printer settings.

  • On the printer’s touchscreen, tap the Setup icon.
  • Go to Printer Maintenance > Restore or Reset.
  • Choose Restore Factory Defaults.
  • If the printer restarts normally, set it up again.

6️⃣ Check Power Supply

  • Ensure the printer is using the original HP power adapter.
  • If using an aftermarket power cord, switch to an HP-compatible one.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
