Hi @jrfrph,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The E4 error on your HP ENVY Pro 6445 indicates a paper jam, even if no paper is visibly stuck. This is common when a small bit of paper is torn inside, a sensor is blocked, or the rollers are misaligned.

Step-by-Step: Clear E4 Error (Paper Jam)

1. Turn Off and Unplug the Printer

  • Turn the printer off and unplug it from the power.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds before continuing.

2. Check All Paper Paths

  • Open the front and rear access doors (if available).
  • Remove any loose paper or debris.

Rear access (if applicable):

  • Look for a rear door or duplexer, press tabs or latches to remove it.
  • Gently remove any visible paper or small bits.

Input Tray & Output Tray:

  • Remove all paper.
  • Check for stuck sheets or crumpled paper beneath rollers.

3. Open Cartridge Access Door

  • Carefully move the ink carriage side to side manually to check for obstructions.
  • Look for any small bits of paper or tape.

4. Roller Check

  • Clean rollers with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water.
  • Rotate the rollers manually to make sure they spin freely.

5. Plug Back In & Reset

  • Plug in the printer and turn it back on.
  • Try to print a test page.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
