When I remove the paper from my input tray on my hp photo smart 6520 so that I can load and print an envelope, there is often one piece of paper already rolled halfway into the printer ready for the next print job. The paper in the tray comes out easily but that one piece that is rolled in, I have to pull out manually by removing the input tray and it's cover and reaching in with my fingertips. It usually destroys the paper or at least crinkles it and it can't be re-used. Isn't there a way to have the printer eject that loaded piece for me? Then the printer will be ready to load and print an envelope.

Hi @SST1

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

Usually, the printer does not load the paper before a print command is given. It picks the paper from the input tray only when the command is given.

Let us try these steps:

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Update the printer firmware

Kindly refer to this document to know how to load envelopes in the printer.

If the issue persists, you may have to either print a page before loading the envelopes or manually remove it.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
