Hi,
I purchased a Deskjet 6230 in 2018 for a relative. They are no longer with us so we are looking to let a child (sorry young adult) have the machine.
I had set up the drivers for our Mackbook and found that the ink cartridges had dried out, perhaps not unsurprisingly. I changed them for a couple of instant ink cartridges sent and it all appeared to be working fine. My wife printed out a few pages but the orange ink light started flashing. Through HP Smart I found the error message "Color HP Instant Ink: This cartridge can only be used in a printer that is currently enrolled in HP Instant Ink." I looked that the purchase of two cartridges but in looking at instant ink I though that one of the smaller plans might be appropriate. I followed the instant ink subscription link and reached a point where it said press I and X in order to " https://instantink.hpconnected.com/uk/en/n/web_enroll/printer_claim/eprint" get a code to enrol ( On the printer, press the Information and Cancel buttons at the same time. A Network Configuration page will print. You will need the code on this printed page in the next step.) However, pressing the buttons as directed did not result in any printing. There appears to be no other way with the 6230 to get the network configuration information in order to subscribe to instant ink and it appears that if you don't subscribe you can't get to the page that describes the service. Can anyone help resolve this so that I can get printing from the existing HP printer? Thanks in advance!

I have now at least resolved the serial number challenge. It appears that HP smart adds characters to the serial number on the sticker to display in the software. Taking the redundant 06PS of the back of what HP Smart listed helped HP's systems recognise the printer. Unfortunately the support options just bring me back here. Still hopeful someone can tell me how to get the information needed to register for instant ink without printing ...... thanks in advance!
