@iain8550,

Thank you for posting this on HP Support Forums!

I see from your post that you're having issues while printing from glossy paper. Don't worry I'll be glad to assist you.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details

What type of photo paper are you using? Have you checked the printer specification for the supported photo paper.

In the meantime, let's try these steps here

Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Assuming you are using high quality paper that has been stored properly and that you are telling the printer what kind of paper to expect, then -- yes:  you should be able use Canon paper.

You want to let the printer know that you are using Photo paper, for example.  The printer must know how to set the rollers (to draw in the paper), how much ink to use, how to mix the colors, and how to set the drying times.

Paper Size and Media Type are selected in Printing Preferences:

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click on your Printer >

Printing Preferences > tab Paper / Quality >>

Select Paper Source > as desired

Select Paper Size > as desired

Select Media > as desired

OK

For example, Media is the paper type >> Photo paper, glossy or matte:  Different kinds of paper are treated differently.

The paper must have been stored properly -- it has to be dry and not brittle, for example.  It needs to have been protected from light (if it is high quality photo paper).

Alternatively, you can also go through the steps suggested in the support document for - HP Photosmart D7100 Series Printers - Wrong Colors

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Have tried what you surgested re. power off but no different.

If i print a test page from the printer setup it prints fine with no colour problems.

its when i try to print an image either from the computer or direct from the sd card slot on the printer the colour is wrong.

as I said this is using HP ink and HP glossy photo paper.

I have installed new drivers= no change

connected to another computer = no change.

I do not understand why it prints a test page correctly but the rest wrong.

@iain8550,

Have you tried to print from different application and check if that works.

Alternatively, I would suggest here is to check the preview before giving the print.

I would suggest you uninstall the printer from the root level and then reinstall it by following the steps below:

  • Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
  • Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
  • Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
  • Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
  • Now check for issue resolution.
  • If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Photosmart printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Please click here to download and install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Let me know how it goes for further assistance.

Cheers!

@iain8550,

Just wanted to check what application are you trying to print from?

Similarly, have you tried to print from different application and check if that works.

Could you please respond to this post with the details for next course of action.

Thank you 🙂

I have tried to print from Photoshop and Irfran view..Both of which worked fine before.

I have alse tried to print from the card slot on the printer and get the same result so I don't think

If you re read my messages you will see what I have tried !

its can't be anything to do with the soft ware ! or the computer !

It has to be something in the printer otherwise otherwise it would print correctly from the card slot.

As you have exhausted all possible troubleshooting steps and unfortunately nothing has helped to resolve this issue. More over you have diagnosed the issue to be with the printer.
