Envy 4500 with windows 10. I want to use HQ grayscale or black ink only. When I apply and confirm the change, it doesn't stay...I can immediately go back to it, and it's on color again. I've madly tried over and over changing anything I can think of and nothing fixes it.

Thanks for the reply and trying the steps suggested.
If the setting is not getting saved for some reason, you can manually use the setting in the print settings available in the application you are printing from.
If the issue persists, recommend you to uninstall the printer software/driver and install it back.
Uninstall the printer from Control Panel.
Open devices and printers, select any device listed there and you will have an option called printer server properties.
Open Printer Server Properties and select the drivers tab, delete all the HP drivers listed there.
Restart the PC.
Update the firmware on the printer using the control panel on the printer. (Will require wireless setup on the printer for this purpose.)
Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
Restart the PC again.
Download the latest full feature driver from www.hp.com/drivers and install it on the computer.
This should resolve the issue you are facing.
Also, make sure your operating system is updated.

In advanced, there is a "print in grayscale" option. I can choose between "off", "Highquality grayscale" or "black ink only". I make the selection to "hq grayscale" then apply the settings. If I immediately go back to check that the setting has been applied, the option is "off" again. In short, the setting will not apply.
