Microsoft Windows 11

I have added my new printer to my wireless network and also searched and added the printer to my surface pro 11th edition but each time I try to print, I receive an error message, "Printer in error state". My main desktop computer prints fine but won't print from my laptop.

Hi @Chloe2286,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting  the "Printer in error state" issue on your HP OfficeJet 250 Mobile All-in-One Printer when printing from your Surface Pro running Windows 11

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the "Printer in error state" issue

Restart Devices:

  • Turn off the printer, laptop, and router.
  • Wait for about a minute, then turn them back on in this order: router, printer, then laptop.

Update Printer Driver:

  • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your HP OfficeJet 250 Mobile All-in-One Printer.
  • Install the driver and follow the on-screen instructions.

Check Printer Status:

  • Ensure that the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Surface Pro.
  • Make sure the printer is not in sleep mode or showing any error messages on its display.

Run the Printer Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  • Find and run the Printer troubleshooter.

Clear Print Queue:

  • Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Scroll down to find Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Stop.
  • Go to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files in this folder.
  • Go back to the Services window, right-click Print Spooler, and select Start.

Re-add Printer:

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Select the printer and choose Remove device.
  • Click Add a printer or scanner and follow the prompts to re-add the printer.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for any available updates. Install them if any are available.

Disable Firewall/Antivirus Temporarily:

  • Temporarily disable any firewall or antivirus software to see if they are blocking the printer connection.

Reset Printer Settings:

  • On your printer, go to the settings menu and look for an option to reset to factory settings. This may help resolve any configuration issues.

Check IP Address Conflict:

  • Make sure there is no IP address conflict on your network. You can assign a static IP address to your printer through your router’s settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
