HP LaserJet Pro M203dw Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

For the past few months I have been noticiing that HP Smart often does not clear jobs from the print queue.   Most of the time this actually has no effect, as the job reported as Stuck seems to have printed and I can print new jobs.  These are typically print jobs from MS Word or Adobe Acrobat, but can be from Excel.   The Printer is connected via an Ethernet cable.  We have this problem from 2 different computers.

I can go into Services and restart print spooler and that will fix the problem, but this is not a reasonable solution for other users.

Hi @BillzHere,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a common issue with print jobs getting stuck in the queue on your HP LaserJet Pro M203dw printer, even though the jobs have actually printed. This can be frustrating, but there are a few steps you can take to try and resolve it.

Troubleshooting Steps:

Update Printer Firmware and Drivers:

  • Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, outdated firmware can cause communication issues with print jobs.
  • Also, make sure that the drivers on your computers are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from the HP support website specific to your printer model.

Check Print Spooler Settings:

  • Sometimes, the print spooler settings can cause issues with job completion. Here’s how you can check and adjust these settings:
    • Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.
    • Type services.msc and press Enter.
    • Locate and right-click on "Print Spooler."
    • Select "Properties" and ensure that the startup type is set to "Automatic." Click "Apply" and "OK."

Clear Print Queue Manually:

  • If jobs appear stuck in the queue, you can manually clear them:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click on your HP LaserJet Pro M203dw printer and select "See what's printing."
    • In the print queue window, click on "Printer" in the top menu bar.
    • Select "Cancel All Documents" to clear the queue.

Restart Print Spooler Service:

  • As you mentioned, restarting the print spooler temporarily resolves the issue. If this continues to be necessary, you might consider creating a batch file to automate this process for easier access.

Check Network Connectivity:

  • Ensure that your printer has a stable Ethernet connection. Sometimes, network interruptions can cause print jobs to get stuck or fail to clear properly.

Reset Printer:

  • If the issue persists, try resetting your printer to its factory settings. This can often resolve persistent software-related issues.

By following these steps, you should be able to mitigate the issue of print jobs getting stuck in the queue on your HP LaserJet Pro M203dw printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
