Have an HP 250 Mobile all in one that has started leaving a center of the scan missing. It is approximately 1 " wide down the length of the scan. It happens whether on document or picture, whether from HP smart or Scan to PC. Not sure if it would be a software or mechanical issue. I am attaching a scanned photo of document from HP Smart.Document_2024-05-13_163258.jpg

Hi @rkduet,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP 250 Mobile All-in-One printer is experiencing a problem that could be related to the scanning hardware itself, particularly since the issue persists across different types of documents and scanning methods. Here are several steps you can take to further diagnose and potentially resolve this issue:

Check the Scanner Glass and Lid:

  • Carefully examine the scanner glass and the underside of the scanner lid for any dirt, fingerprints, scratches, or other obstructions that might be causing the gap in the scan. Clean the glass and lid with a soft, lint-free cloth that's slightly dampened with glass cleaner.

Inspect the Scanning Mechanism:

  • If possible, check the scanning bar (the light that moves under the glass when a scan is in progress). Ensure it's not blocked, stuck, or hindered by debris or mechanical failure. This bar should move smoothly across the entire length of the glass.

Reset the Printer:

  • Similar to troubleshooting other printer issues, a reset can sometimes clear up scanning problems. Turn off the printer, unplug it for a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on to see if the issue persists.

Update Software and Firmware:

  • Ensure that both your printer’s firmware and the HP Smart software are up to date. Updates can often fix bugs or compatibility issues that might be causing problems with scanning.
  • You can check for firmware updates on HP's official website under the support section for your printer model.

Test Different Scanning Settings:

  • Try changing the scanning resolution and other settings through the HP Smart app or your computer’s scanning software. It’s possible that certain configuration settings might be contributing to the issue.

Reinstall the Scanner Drivers:

  • Sometimes, corrupted or outdated drivers can cause issues. Reinstall the scanner/printer drivers on your PC. You can download the latest drivers from HP’s website.

Try Scanning from a Different Application:

  • If you’ve only used HP Smart for scanning, try another application like Windows Fax and Scan (for Windows) or Image Capture (for Mac) to see if the issue is specific to one software.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
