I changed printer ink cartridges with new HP ink cartridges (both black and color).  The printer says that the color cartridge is empty (with the brand new cartridge), and I get a "Use Setup Cartridges" error in HP Smart.  I have had this printer for several  years (and frankly, do not recall the unit coming with "setup cartridges," though it may have!).  Is there a workaround, or am I able to purchase new setup cartridges?

Hi @John80487,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

We would have to perform an OOBE reset on the printer to bypass the error

  • The reset instructions are specific to your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
