I am having a terrible end user experience. I went to Office Depot, and bought genuine brand new HP 61 ink cartridges.
I install them. First, the printer repeatedly rejects the tricolor cartridge. Then the printer complains that the black cartridge is not genuine.
I have trouble believing that anyone could counterfeit HP cartridge, and all the packaging, and sell it through Office Depot.
Meantime, the printer is now useless.
My repeated attempts to get support via the HP virtual agent are worse than useless.
It refuses to connect me to a live agent, either.
I have been a loyal HP customer for 3 decades. My 3050 lasted 16 years!
Perhaps it is time to walk away. Is anyone at HP paying attention?

after reading an article in the trouble shooter, I cleaned all the cartridge contacts.
Still no luck.
I swapped back out the new tricolor for the old tricolor (61).
It seems to solve the problem.
best guess: HP has a QC problem with their 61 tricolor ink cartridges.
this problem cost about 90 minutes of aggravation.
