I purchased this printer a few weeks ago. When installed it worked perfectly. Now it will not print. Running the MS troubleshooter says The fault is that the printer is not set to default. Setting to default fixes the problem. This is unacceptable however. We have a much faster B&W laser printer that is default. The HP 3840 is intended for occasional color printing. I had set up the printer for Instant Ink. Is this the cause of the new requirement ? If so I have to cancel Instant Ink.

I think I found the answer to this problem, Itseems to occur because the PC was set to allow windows to manage the default printer. I have never set that and I think it may have been done by the Instant Ink setup. Anyway going to the control panel > Devices and Printers, and manually setting our laser printer as default has apparently cleared the problem . I can now print to the 3830 without it being set to default. I hope this may help somebody else who runs int the same problem.
