HP 515 cannot finish printing from Windows

Hi All, this is my 1st question here.


I have just recently purchased a HP 515 Smart Tank, which currently able to print from mobile devices using HP Smart. I am however, facing difficulties to print from Windows (mine is x64 and always updated). The printer has been installed/removed/installed several times (following normal windows troubleshooting). I have already tried restarting the print spooler, redownload the HP installation software, using the provided CD, to no avail.


Everytime i tried to print using wifi to the printer, the printer either did not respond, or respond initially (i heard the cartridge moving), or sometimes managed to print half a page, before stuck (with the power light blinking),, only to finish the job later with only half the page printed. I suspect that this was my print spooler issue, but i am now clueless.

I'd like to help with the printer connectivity issue.


 Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity

Download a special version of HP Print and Scan Doctor specifically created to help with printer offline conditions.

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  2. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.
  3. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.
    • If your printer in not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.
    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  4. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.
  5. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

Set a manual IP-


To set a manual IP and try the steps below -


--->Touch on the wifi icon ((i)) on the printer, and take down the IP address 

--->Open a web browser (ex Chrome or Mozilla) and type in the printer's IP

--->then go to network ---> general ---> network protocols ---> select IPV4 only-->apply 

--->go to wireless ---> wireless 802.11---> select manual ip ---> apply

--->Enter for the first DNS and for the second DNS.  

--->then go to settings on the main ews page --> power management ---> select sleep mode to max 15min


 Connect the printer to TCP/IP port


 --->Touch on the wifi icon ((i)) on the printer, and take down the IP address 

a. Click Start/Devices and Printers.  Right-click on your HP Printer.  Select Printer Properties.  Select the Ports tab at the top.

b.    Select Add Port.  Select Standard TCP/IP Port.  Select New Port.

c.    Follow the Add Port Wizard.  Under Printer Name or IP Address, .  Example:  The IP address will be copied under Port Name.  

d.    Select Next and Finish the Wizard.

HI Jay, Thank you very much for the reply.


I have tried:


1. HP Print and Scan Doctor, to the steps where it asks whether to have a test page printed or not, the page never got printed (the printer pull the paper in though, stops halfway, then pushes the paper through without anything printed on it). One interesting thing was the HPPSDr detects more than 1 installed printers, when I only have 1.


2. Already did set the printer to use only IPv4, and I did follow your suggestion to put the manual IP (which is currently the IP that the printer uses right now). I also set the DNS, but still, the same issue pertains.


3. Add the manual port as well, it was working with the port IPHxxxxxx, but now it didn't work on that port as well.


Even sending a windows printer test page failed.


If i can add one thing, i have two PCs in the same network, and those two can print just fine, using "Microsoft IPP Class Driver", and my laptop is the only one using HP Smart Tank 510 series PCL-3 driver. Moreover, it was like a hit and miss when adding the printer to my PC, sometimes it said "driver unavailable", sometimes it said "offline", sometimes it said "app are available" - which is the HP Smart App, but still no print.


Do you think it was my laptop instead of the printer?
