The printer was displaying an inkjet cartridge issue, I use HP instant ink. I uninstalled and reinstalled it as instructed. it still would not print then it displayed a blue screen with error code B808972. Then the screen displayed black and white, vertical lines and shut off. I reset it per the instructions on the forum by disconnecting the cord from the wall and printer then after 30 seconds I reconnected. It did not turn on automatically and will not turn on with the power button. No lights or anything is happening.

Hi @Kamm4,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP ENVY 5660 e-All-in-One Printer is experiencing a significant hardware or software issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem.
Check the Power Source:
- Ensure the power outlet is functioning by testing it with another device.
- Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet instead of a power strip or surge protector to eliminate those as potential issues.
Inspect the Power Cord:
- Examine the power cord for any visible damage or wear. If you see any fraying or cuts, you may need to replace the cord.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Disconnect the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet first, then to the printer.
- Try turning on the printer using the power button.
Remove Ink Cartridges:
- If the printer powers on after the reset, try removing the ink cartridges and then attempting to turn it on again. Sometimes, a malfunctioning cartridge can cause startup issues.
Check for Overheating:
- Make sure the printer is in a well-ventilated area and not overheating. If it feels hot, let it cool down for a while before trying to turn it on again.
Look for Error Codes:
- If you manage to power it on, note any error messages or codes displayed on the screen. This information can be useful for further troubleshooting.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Kamm4,
Thank you for your response,
It sounds frustrating that your HP ENVY 5660 printer is still not responding despite trying the initial troubleshooting steps. Here are some advanced troubleshooting steps you can take to further diagnose and possibly resolve the issue.
Check the Printer's Internal Components:
- Open the printer cover and inspect for any foreign objects or paper jams inside the printer that could be causing a blockage. Sometimes, a piece of paper can get lodged in a way that prevents the printer from powering on.
Examine the Power Supply:
- If the power cord and outlet are working but the printer still doesn’t turn on, the internal power supply may be faulty. If you're comfortable with it, you can open the printer (check the warranty status first) to see if the power supply connections are secure. Look for any burned components or disconnections.
Reset the Printer's Firmware:
- If the printer is completely unresponsive, you might be able to reset the firmware through a USB connection to a computer. Sometimes, a firmware glitch can cause such issues.
- Use HP's Software and Driver Downloads page to download the latest firmware for your printer model and follow the instructions for updating it.
Check for Short Circuits:
- Inspect the internal wiring and components for signs of short circuits, especially if the printer has been subjected to any spills or physical impacts. Look for scorch marks or melted plastic.
Perform a Factory Reset via Service Mode:
- Some printers have a service mode that allows you to perform a factory reset. This often requires a specific sequence of button presses:
- Turn the printer off.
- While turning it on, press and hold specific buttons (like the Cancel and Start Copy buttons) until you see a special menu appear.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to reset.
Try a Different Power Cord:
- If possible, use a different power cord that matches the specifications of your printer to rule out a faulty power cable.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
