Hi @GraemeA1,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
The "E6" error code on your HP ENVY 6000 series printer generally indicates a carriage jam or an issue with the ink system. Here’s how you can troubleshoot and potentially resolve this error:
1. Check for Paper Jams
- Turn Off the Printer: Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Open the Printer: Carefully open the access door where the ink cartridges are located.
- Check for Obstructions: Look for any paper jams or foreign objects that might be blocking the carriage from moving. Remove any jammed paper or debris.
2. Inspect the Ink Cartridges
- Remove and Reinsert: Gently remove the ink cartridges and inspect them for any damage. Reinsert them securely to ensure proper contact.
- Check the Carriage: Ensure that the carriage (the part that holds the ink cartridges) can move freely from side to side. If it’s stuck, gently try to move it.
3. Reset the Printer
- Power Cycle the Printer: Unplug the printer from the power source for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can reset any errors in the system.
4. Update Firmware
- Check for Updates: If your printer is connected to the internet, check for any available firmware updates through the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve error codes.
5. Perform a Hard Reset
- Unplug the Printer: With the printer on, unplug it from the power source.
- Press and Hold Power Button: Press and hold the power button on the printer for about 30 seconds.
- Reconnect and Turn On: Plug the printer back in and turn it on. Check if the error persists.
The E6 error is often related to mechanical issues within the printer, so addressing any jams or carriage issues usually helps resolve it.

If the error code continues to appear after trying these steps, it may indicate a more serious issue with the printer's hardware. In this case, contacting HP Phone Support for further assistance is recommended.
