Hi,
I replaced the printhead and now I am getting an error telling me to "Remove cartridges and inspect for leaks. Do not use leaking cartridges. Re-install cartridges if ok. Turn printer off and on.
The cartridges are not leaking. HP Printer Assistant is telling me there is a problem with the black ink cartridge. I replaced it with a brand new OEM black cartridge, still the same error message. I have followed all other advice online, i.e., reinstalled the printhead, cleaned the cables, cleaned the contacts, turned the machine on and off, popped the cartridges out, reinstalled them, etc. etc. Same problem.
This is a hardware issue, but I can't put my finger on it. I cleaned the ribbon, don't know what else to try.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Alan

Did you really replace the printhead (and not just the cartridge)? The printhead in the Officejet 6700 is not user replaceable, and there are not replacement parts available.
If somehow you did get a replacement printhead and dismantled the printer enough to change the printhead I would suspect the issue may be related to the pump in the service station area that is used to prime the cartridges. Make sure the tubes are not blocked and they are not dislodged.
When (if) you replaced the printhead did you trigger the long (about fifteen minutes) startup/priming routine? This is likely needed to get the printhead initially primed.

I replaced the printhead following in exact detail the instructions online (the wonders of Youtube!). Not the first time I've taken apart HP Printers, just the first inkjet. All went well except I guess I could not get the new printhead to initialize. No, I never got the machine to trigger the startup/priming routine. I got the error message and that was the end of that.
So, how do I get the machine to recognize the new printhead and start the routine?
Thank you for your help.
Regards,
Alan

You may find something on Youtube about performing a reset on the printer, but that may also cause the printer to demand setup cartridges. Unfortunately, there is a lot of (mis)information out there that can cause issues. Do you have a link for the video you used?
You may have success running a series of cleaning cycles - if you run three cleaning cycles in quick sequence it will do a more thorough cycle each time. The third cycle may have a short version of the printing cycle. I do not know if you will be able to do cleaning cycles from the front panel if there is a blocking error on the screen.
The Officejet 6700 is not really designed to have the printhead replaced. Sorry I do not have any additional information.

I looked at one of the Youtube videos. I suspect the issue may be related to the two yellow tubes, these are what the priming pump attaches to. If these are not properly connected it could cause the issue you are seeing.
That said, I searched Amazon for the printhead part number, all of them were third party and/or refurbished. The reviews were pretty dismal - more folks than not had no success....

OK, I'm starting to see the picture here, buy a new one, don't replace the printhead. For what its worth, here is the link I used to replace the printhead. I am certain that it was replaced correctly - I have very good engineering and mechanical skills and it was replaced correctly. The failure to operate seems to be a software issue with the printer itself.

I have used other videos to reset the printer, etc. No luck.
Thanks again.
