Since changing the black cartridge on my printer yesterday, I can no longer print. I get two error messages: 1) Paper jam: I have looked everywhere, and there is no paper jam, and 2) Printer Failure 0x6100004a "There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn the printer Off, then On. If you continue to get this message, contact HP." I have turned the computer off and on a number of times, and nothing changes. When I open up the printer to look inside, the carriage does not move to the left, and I cannot remove any of the cartridges.

Hi @Pumpkin4444,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP Officejet Pro 6830 printer may experience this issue due to several possible causes, such as a cartridge not being seated properly, a stalled carriage, or a general hardware issue. Here are some steps to try to resolve the problem.
Power Reset:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on to see if the carriage moves.
Clear Any Possible Jam:
- Open the printer's access door to inspect for any hidden debris or paper fragments inside the printer path, especially in hard-to-see areas around the paper feed and carriage.
- Make sure there are no small pieces of paper or obstructions near the carriage path.
Carriage Check:
- With the printer turned off, gently move the carriage to the left manually if possible. If it’s stuck, avoid forcing it and check for any visible obstructions.
- Sometimes dried ink or minor debris can prevent the carriage from moving, so inspect the path carefully.
Clean Ink Cartridges and Carriage Contacts:
- Open the printer’s access door and inspect the cartridges. If possible, remove each cartridge (if the carriage moves to the left after trying the above steps).
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water to clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the carriage. Let everything dry completely before reinserting.
Reinstall the Black Cartridge:
- Sometimes the printer doesn’t recognize a new cartridge properly. Try removing the black cartridge, powering off and on again, and then reinserting it.
- Make sure it’s securely installed.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, the error code 0x6100004a could indicate a hardware failure within the ink system.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for your reply!
This did not fix my issue, however. In trying all of your latter suggestions, I cannot move the cartridge head to troubleshoot those ways. The printer path is free of debris, at least that debris which is visible without unscrewing parts of the printer.
After hitting "okay" on the printer jam screen at least once, the printer tells me that I have error code 0x6100004a. What do I do about this hardware system failure?
