I am printing text in B&W, but as there is no choice, eg no pure B&W option, for all I know the printer might be using the colour cartridges even though the text is all black.  Lines of text are incomplete as though there is a shortage of ink.  The “Printer Status Report” shows, by my measurements on hte bar lines, 17% ink levels for each of M, C and Y and 39% for black.

 Do I need to (a) Change each of the M, C and Y cartridges and hope that his B&W printing will them work properly, or (b) change the 39% full black cartridge in the same hope, or (c) change them all regardless of waste and expense?

@R-Ramage,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • What is the exact model for your printer?
  • Are you facing the same issue when you make a copy?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

Look forward to hearing from you and you have a great day!

Take care.

Cheers!
