Officejet 6968

Hi there. Just purchased a new HP printer 6968. Been trying to configure the static IP and get an error the Default Gateway is invalid.

The settings I've tried I have actually used with my computer so I know they are fine; however, they don't work with the HP printer. The issue seems to be that the IP address and the Gateway address differ in the last two digits. ie: Printer IP 198:162:1:69 and the Default Gateway 198:162:2:1. If I try setting the printer to have maching thirds digits then the printer will accept the settings but of course has no network connection. Our office network has many computers, printers and other devices configured in the same way with this Gateway and an IP using numbers differing in the last two digits. Other printers we have in the office have no problem accepting similar settings. So at this point I'm at a loss of how to get the printer on the network and looking at returning it.

Any help is very much appreciated!

Thanks, Mike

Reset the printer back to Network Defaults.   Now set your static IP in the printer but not the same as the gateway of 192.168.2.1.

Make sure your static IP is outside the DHCP range of yhour router.

Nice advice if you know what it means. I don't and have the same problem with my 6960 that has just been one conne3ction problem after another since I bought it.
