Hello, I sure hope someone can help me.   I have tried all of the troubleshooting fixes offered by HP.  Up until yesterday my printer was working perfect.   Then I went to use it and it is stuck with a "printer failure"  message.   All of my cartriges are brand new and HP cartridges.

This error reads "printer failure" and not  "printer ink system failure"

Does anyone know how to by pass or fix this error

Thanks

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

This seems like a hardware issue with the printer. Let us try these steps:

  • Hit the Back arrow key or the Home icon and check if it takes you to the Home screen of the printer.

If you have tried all the troubleshooting steps mentioned in this document and if you are not able to bypass the error message on the printer screen, a factory reset cannot be performed.

Please contact our HP Support team for Service Options as it could be a possible hardware issue:

1) Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Select the appropriate option based on your preference.

6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Thanks for replying so quickly.

Sadly the only key that this "printer failure" error allows me to use is the ?  so I am truly locked out of sorting the issue using the printer screen.

The second part of your help suggestion has not been fruitful.  As all I can find is a "ink system failure"  error and not the print failure error.

I have done the following with out success

https://support.hp.com/si-en/document/c03262508

I have followed these steps from top to bottom. Even though they are for the "ink system failure" error

At present I have had the printer unplugged from both the printer and the wall for 24 hrs.

Any further help would truly be appreciated

Thanks

That's Unfortunate. However, The document that I linked to in my previous post is for a 'Printer Failure' Message and not Ink system failure.

To check the document again, click here

Since the printer is unable to go to the home screen and the error is stuck, we do not have any other troubleshooting steps to be performed.I'm afraid this is a Hardware failure with the printer.

Sorry but I really don’t feel that this is an exceptable response. There should be a solution to this problem and it seems that you do not provide tech support in the Ottawa area.  This printer is just over a yr old and has never had an issue of any kind then poof this!

So I blocked out some time today and troubleshooted the issue with my printer.  And in fact it was both the 933xl black tank and the 932xl yellow tank.   Both were brand new installs and both defective.   I purchased them at the same time from staples canada who will not exchage ink cartridges after the box is opened.  So this fix cost me $100.00 canadian for replacing 2 brand new defective cartridges.

While troubleshooting I pulled all the ink cartridges and reinstalled them one by one.  When I had the first cartridge colour M back in I was able to by pass the "printer failure"  error.  And send a scan to my email etc. I then inserted the C cartridge and was still able to move around the printer home screen.  Upon insterting the new yellow cartridge I could not move forward, and still had the "printer failure" error.  I then removed the yellow cartidge and inserted the black and received the same results.   After purchasing a new black and a new yellow cartridge I inserted the new yellow cartridge and was able to move forward and then the same with the new black cartridge.

Yes my printer now works, sadly I am out an additional $100 for ink that I just purchased within the last 30 days.
