HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I purchased a HP 7740 in April 2021 and just recently have been getting an error message that reads, "Memory Device Problem, A problem with the USB device has occurred. remove the USB device, and then restart the printer." I haven't used an USB device with the printer. I have followed the other threads that talk about this same problem and the recommendations to perform a shut down of the printer by first removing the plug from the back of the printer, then the wall, waiting a couple of minutes, and then reattach the plug to the wall and then to the back of the printer. When the printer turns on, I still get the same error message. I have also used the control panel to perform  a factory reset (a couple of times) and I keep getting the same error message as soon as the printer is turned back on. I see from some of the other discussions that people have posted with the same problem, an HP employee replied that they would send a specific reset sequence via a DM. Can I please get those instructions because my other attempts have failed. Thanks.

Hi @NedsterD,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are getting an error message "Memory Device Problem - Problem with USB device" on your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

We need to perform a Semi full reset to restore the printer back to its original settings.

The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.

I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Community profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
