My HP Envy Photo 7855 won't boot up.  It hangs up on the first blue dot.  I have tried shutting it off, unplugging it for a weekend, rebooting, but nothing suggested on this forum seems to work.

Hi @tshore,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your HP Envy Photo 7855 printer is not booting up and gets stuck on the first blue dot, it can be frustrating. There are several troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve this issue.

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for a few minutes (at least 30 seconds) to ensure all power is discharged from the printer.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Check for Hardware Issues:

  • Ensure that all cables and connections are secure.
  • Check for any loose or damaged parts, especially if the printer was moved recently.

Update Firmware:

  • If possible, check if there is a firmware update available for your printer model on the HP website. If an update is available, follow the instructions to update the firmware.

Perform a Factory Reset:

  • If the printer is not responding to any commands, you may need to perform a factory reset. The process may vary depending on the printer model, so refer to your printer's user manual for specific instructions on how to do this.

Remove and Reinstall Ink Cartridges:

  • Sometimes, an issue with the ink cartridges can cause startup problems. Remove the ink cartridges, check them for any visible issues, and then reinsert them securely.

Clear Paper Jams (if applicable):

  • If there's a paper jam in the printer, it may prevent it from booting up properly. Check for and remove any paper jams if you can access the printer's interior.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi.  The response below is not helpful.  The process for "factory reset" in the user manual requires that I use the touch screen on the printer.  However, as I described in my original post, the printer freezes on the first dot during boot up, and the touch screen is thus unresponsive.  I have taken all other measures suggested:  Turning the printer off for a time, holding down the power button, rebooting our router, but nothing works.

Other posts on this topic (this seems to be a common problem...) mention some sort of secret reset process that can be provided in a message from HP.  If that is so, it is probably what is needed here.
