HP 7960

I just got a few new ink cartridges  for my printer and when installing them it went through the calibration page printing process like normal. Except this time it’s in a loop and I can’t get it to complete or stop. I’ve tried a few things I found on other forums without success which included the below. I also found some people saying to put your printer back to factory default setting but I can’t do that the way I read online as it requires the ability to interact with the menu on the printer and while this is in the calibration loop I can’t get to the menu. Please help!

- turn printer off/on

- take cartridges out while it’s on and then turn off then back on and put cartridges back in

- take cartridges out while printer is on. Then unplug power from printer. Then unplug power from outlet. Then unplug usb cable from printer. Then let it sit 2-3 mins. Then hold the power button for 30+ secs. Then plug power back into back of printer. Then plug power directly to outlet (no surge protector or extension cable). Then turn on printer

- I even tried putting the old cartridges back in thinking it didn’t like the new cartridges and that didn’t help either

Hi @JCSTL

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you. The support for this model printer is limited due to its age.

Let us restore the printer to its factory settings:

  1. Press the Menu button on the front panel of the printer.

  2. Select Preferences using the Up Arrow and Down Arrow on the front panel, and click the OK button.

  3. Select the Restore Defaults button and press OK. A message will appear on the display confirming that all menu preferences have been reset.

Reinsert the ink cartridges and try again.

If the issue persists, please contact our HP Support team for Service Options as it could be a possible hardware issue:

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Select the appropriate option based on your preference.

6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.

As I described in my post I CAN NOT interact with the menu as it’s stuck in the calibration loop. So I can’t get to the factory default settings through the GUI on the printer. Is there a way to force factory defaults through another method?

@JCSTL, that's unfortunate.

I'm afraid this is a hardware issue with the printer. Kindly contact the HP Support team for service options as mentioned in my previous post.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
