My HP 8620 first stopped printing black, I think did my best to clean the cartridge carriage.  I have been NOT using HP original ink cartridges and getting along just fine.  When I re-installed the cartridges after the cleaning, I then got an error message that one or more cartridges may be damaged and need to be replaced.  I installed all new cartridges sadly (NOT HP).  I then kept getting messages about "damaged" cartridges.  I went on-line and was recommended a full reset, which I did.  I selected English as the language then one more screen US then it immediately went back to the same error messaging and worse now is that the carriage is stuck in the far right position.  Part of the problem could be that when you do a full reset AND don't have original HP cartridges, it is designed to fail perhaps.  That sounds sinister but I am totally at a loss and need a quick solution please.

No update from HP.  There have been identical problems posted on this forum and HP has responded to some "privately".  If there is a solution and it's easy I hope they contact me.  I had a perfectly good work horse and up to last week would give the printer 5 stars and I've owned this for at least 5 years.  Feels like I have been caught up in the "genuine HP" ink cartridge racket but I am still holding out hope it's not true.  This hurts HP business for sure.
