Hi @Slooooow,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the error message "Undefined IOREF 99999 Alert ID: 8048" typically suggests a problem with the software or firmware related to scanning or communication between the printer and the computer. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

1. Restart the Devices

  • Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 1 minute before plugging it back in and turning it on.
  • Computer: Restart your Windows 10 computer.

2. Update the Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

Ensure your printer firmware is up-to-date:

  • Go to the HP Software and Driver Downloads page: HP Support.
  • Enter your printer model (HP OfficeJet Pro 9015) and download the latest firmware.
  • Install the firmware following the on-screen instructions.

3. Reinstall the HP Smart App HP printer setup (HP Smart app)

Corrupt or outdated software can cause these errors:

  1. Uninstall the HP Smart app from your computer:
    • Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & Features, find HP Smart, and click Uninstall.
  2. Download and install the latest version of the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store or HP’s website.
  3. Re-add your printer to the app and test scanning.

4. Check for Windows Updates

Ensure your Windows 10 (32-bit) system is fully updated:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Click Check for updates and install any available updates.

5. Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor

This tool can automatically identify and resolve scanning issues:

  • Download the HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP’s official page.
  • Open the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix the problem.

6. Manually Remove and Reinstall the Printer Driver

  1. Remove the printer driver:
    • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click on your printer and select Remove device.
    • Go to Print Server Properties, click the Drivers tab, and remove the driver.
  2. Download and install the full feature printer software for the HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 from HP’s support page.

7. Check Network and Connection

Ensure the printer and computer are on the same network and that the printer has a strong Wi-Fi connection. If the problem persists, try using a USB connection to rule out network issues.

8. Reset Printer to Factory Settings

If all else fails, you may need to reset your printer to its factory default settings:

  • On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.
  • Reconfigure the printer and test scanning.

I hope this helps.

I tried all of that and when I went to print a test page it printed about 100 pages of gibberish before I pulled the plug.  It still displays the error message and only completes about 3/4 cycle on copy mode before it freezes.  I'm thinking the printer went over to the dark side.  Will likely replace it, not being worth my time to fight a losing battle.  I liked the printer while it was working.  Thanks for your advice.

Just wanted to note that I just got this error in the middle of a copy job this evening. I tried resetting to factory settings according to the advice here, and so far so good. My pages are copying normally again.

Thanks for your comment.  I have replaced the HP printer.  Spent too much time trying to fix it.
