HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M553
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have a Color LaserJet Enterprise M553 printer that is super slow at printing or even out right working.

If I send a job to it as a PDF, it takes about 5 minutes for the printer to even start printing, regardless of the size of the PDF. If by some chance it starts printing, it will print out one page and then stop, wait another 5 minutes and start printing again, one page at the time. It's extremely frustrating when I have to print out more than 2 pages and it takes insanely long time to do.

This is regardless if I send a print job from my phone, my iPad or my PC with all the correct installed drivers.

I've tried the PCL 6 driver as well as PostScript driver, while PostScript driver does work slightly faster, it doesn't print correctly when it comes to boxes that have been filled out while writing on my iPad.

If I send a job directly from my iPad, it will print out one page, then stop and the display will display "ready". No other pages after that appear.

Once the pages have been printed, it will just stop for 5 minutes and then print out another page.

The fuser has recently been replaced by a HP original spare part, all of the toners are half full, the printer has been thoroughly cleaned from the inside. The toner collection unit has been cleaned out thoroughly as well.

It's really starting to get on my nerves as HP markets this printer as being in able to print 40 or so pages per minute, mine prints 5 pages per hour.

Please, any help is appreciated, I am on my last nerves with this printer.

Please clarify which driver you are using, the HP Universal Printer Driver or the model specific driver? What type of port do you have configured for the driver. If the printer is networked and you are using a WSD port this will return less than satisfying results.

I‘m using the newest PCL 6 Driver as well as PostScript driver from HP Website. PostScript doesn‘t print some handwritten annotations from GoodNotes correctly so I use the PCL 6 driver.

However, I have realized that I was actually in the wrong. The problem was that I was using PDF24 for printing which probably sends entire 50-60mb documents to the printer which the printer then needs to chew to print.

I tried using Adobe Acrobat and it prints perfectly fine despite 50-60mb file sizes.

I have tried disabling the WS-Discorvery however this then doesn‘t let me AirPrint from my iPad or iPhone so I keep it on.

For those having the same problems, installing the PCL 6 driver and using Adobe Acrobat to print PDF‘s helped with the printing speed.

As for printing from my iPhone or iPad, it prints perfectly fine as long as the PDF file sizes aren‘t extremely large. GoodNotes for some reason exports PDF‘s at insanely large sizes because of handwriting.

Thanks for your help!
