Started trying to fix the colour printing that was aligned.  I've updated calibrations, restored to factory resets and performed hard resets including removing the cartridges.  What do I do now?

Hi @cnw139,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you’ve already tried several troubleshooting steps. Here’s a more targeted approach to address the issue of your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw not printing black:

Check the Black Toner Cartridge:

  • Ensure the black toner cartridge is properly installed.
  • Remove the cartridge and gently shake it side to side to redistribute the toner.
  • Check for any signs of damage or leaks. If the cartridge is old or depleted, consider replacing it with a new one.

Clean the Printer:

  • Open the toner access door and remove the toner cartridges.
  • Look for any toner buildup or debris inside the printer.
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean any toner residue or dust from the inside.

Inspect the Drum Unit:

  • If your printer has a separate drum unit, remove and check it for any damage or toner buildup.
  • Clean the drum carefully using a dry, soft cloth.

Run Printer Diagnostics:

  • Access the printer's control panel and navigate to the diagnostic tools or maintenance section.
  • Run any available tests or cleaning cycles to ensure the printer is functioning correctly.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your printer. You can download them from the HP website.
  • Sometimes, reinstalling the drivers can resolve printing issues.

Check Printer Settings:

  • Verify that the printer settings are configured correctly. Ensure that the printer is set to print in color and black and white if needed.

Firmware Update:  Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer. Updating the firmware can resolve various printer issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
