HP DESKJET 2542
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hi

My HP Deskjet 2542 is connected but not working. I have uninstalled and installed the software and drivers from hp support. I have also carried out the HP doctor and scan app. I have checked the usb cables and port.

It is printing the diagnostic page from my laptop. When I go into word, excel or any other programmes to print it says word is not responding. The printing bar/icon at the bottom of the screen that tells you the document is background printing seems to reach a quarter of the ways and then I get a message to say word not responding.

By printing the diagnostic page tells me the printer is connected and my laptop is communicating with the printer.

I have tried everything even changed the cartridges. PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP?!!

I REALLY DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO NOW. CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN IN SIMPLE WORDS PLEASE?

Kind regards

Many thanks

Pam

Hi @Veronica12,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you are unable to print from your computer to your
HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Printer.

This issue could occur if the drivers are not installed properly.

Let's go through a few steps to uninstall and reinstall the drivers:

Step 1: Uninstall the Drivers:

Please follow the steps provided to uninstall the printer software in the link: Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows)

Also, please follow the steps provided below to completely remove the printer software from printer properties.

Steps to remove printer driver files from Print Server Properties:

1. Open the Print Server Properties dialog window by doing any one of the following:

(a). Press WINDOWS-R on the keyboard to bring up the Run window, type in 'printui /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click OK.

(b) From the Start menu or the Start screen and open Devices and Printers. Select any printer and then click "Print server properties" at the top of the window. Click on the Drivers tab.

2. Select the printer driver you wish to uninstall.

3. Click the Remove button.

4. Select "Remove driver and driver package" and click OK.

Step 2: Download and install the Drivers from the link: Full Feature Software and Drivers

Let me know how this works.

You have a good day ahead.

Hi Rainbow23

Many thanks for your email and the answer to my printing problem. I completed everything that you said and the final answer was that my printer, driver and software had completed successfully. But still I am getting the message that the printer is not responding when I print.

Please please please can you help?

Also I am connected by a usb cable. Do I have to have a claim code? I thought not as I am usb connected. I do not want to to wireless connected by the internet.

Kind regards

Many thanks

Hi Rainbow 23

I tried the scan docter from the link.  When I got to print a test page. It looked as though it was going to print the test page but did not. It completed communicating with printer but did not print the test page.

Then when I went onto next. Nothing happened.

Do you have any other ideas please please.

Kind regards

Many thanks
