I have a HP DeskJet 2800e series. I have a 8.5 x 11 document that I have created in Photoshop. When I go to print it, the print preview shifts it up on the page. I have attached a blank page example and the the document I'm trying to print centered on the page. When I try to shift it down it crops it, I attached a screenshot.
I also have a hp envy 110 series and it prints it correctly (screenshot attached) , but I need to use the 2800 to print these documents because I have the instant ink subscription on the 2800.

Hi @VirtropolisVR,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like the issue could be caused by margin settings, paper size mismatches, or Photoshop print settings. When printing from Photoshop, even a slight discrepancy can cause the document to shift.
1. Check Photoshop Document Settings
- Document Size: Ensure it's set to 8.5 x 11 inches (Letter) at 300 DPI (or preferred resolution).
- Canvas Positioning: Go to Image > Canvas Size and confirm the image is centered.
2. HP Printer Settings (Key Step)
⚙️ On Your Computer:
- File > Print... in Photoshop.
- Printer: Select HP DeskJet 2800e series.
- Print Settings (or Properties):
- Paper Size: Confirm it's Letter (8.5 x 11) — no A4 or custom size.
- Orientation: Set to Portrait or Landscape based on your design.
- Paper Type: Match the correct type (e.g., Plain, Photo).
- Scaling:
- Disable "Fit to Page" or "Scale to Fit."
- Set Scaling to 100% to avoid shifting.
- Borderless Printing: If needed, enable this to avoid margins.
3. Disable "Borderless Alignment" (If Applicable)
Some HP printers have an auto-alignment feature that may shift the print.
- In HP Smart App (or Printer Properties):
- Go to Advanced Settings or Printer Preferences.
- Disable "Borderless Alignment" if available.
4. Run "Align Printer" Utility
Alignment issues can stem from hardware calibration.
- Open the HP Smart App.
- Go to Printer Maintenance > Align Printer.
- Follow the instructions to print and scan the alignment page.
5. Try Printing from Another Program
To rule out Photoshop as the issue:
- Print from Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, or Preview (Mac).
- If the issue persists, it's likely the printer settings or firmware.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I appreciate your help on this. I checked all the settings you mentioned. I think it is a setting on the printer or the firmware. This is the only printer I have this problem. It doesn't have many print settings I can adjust.

@VirtropolisVR, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you so much for posting your query! My colleague is currently out, but don't worry – I’ll be taking over and making sure we get this sorted for you.
I’m here to help, and together, we’ll work through this!
Let's explore some potential fixes to address this issue:
Check for printer firmware updates:
It’s important to make sure that its firmware is up to date, as outdated firmware can sometimes cause issues with alignment or print scaling.
You may refer to this guide: Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support
Also, the issue could be related to the print settings not being fully applied, even though you’ve already selected the correct printer and paper size in the main Printer Setup section. Sometimes, you need to double-check the Print Settings button within the dialog box, even if the settings already appear correct.
Double-Check Print Settings: After selecting your HP DeskJet 2800e printer in the main Printer Setup section, you also need to click Print Settings and verify that US Letter (8.5 x 11) is selected under Paper Size, even if it already shows up there.
Adjust the Margins: In some cases, the margins can still be incorrect despite the correct paper size being selected, so make sure to review them as well.
In the picture above, the top version has the wrong margins, and the bottom version has the correct margins. The only difference between the two was that before taking the second screenshot, I clicked Print Settings and selected US Letter in the Paper Size menu, even though it was already selected.
I truly hope these steps help get things back on track. If you have any questions or need any further clarification, just let me know – I’m happy to guide you through it and make sure everything works perfectly.
Take care, and I hope you have an amazing day ahead! 😊
Problem solved? 🎉 That’s fantastic! If you could mark this as the Accepted Solution, it would help others find their way here faster. And if you found this helpful, a simple ‘yes’ would mean a lot – it makes my day and gives this reply a little street cred! 🏅
