Hi @mkjui,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting the "E!" error and flashing lights on your HP DeskJet 4130e often indicate a general hardware issue that the printer is detecting, which could be caused by things like paper jams, cartridge problems, or firmware issues. Since the issue resets when you turn the printer off and on, it may not be an immediate critical failure, but it is definitely worth addressing before your warranty expires.
Here’s what you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Check for Paper Jams
- Power off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
- Check for paper jams in all accessible areas: the input tray, output tray, and inside the printer by lifting the scanner lid.
- Remove any stuck paper carefully to avoid tearing it.
2. Check Ink Cartridges
- Open the cartridge access door and ensure that the cartridges are properly seated.
- If you notice any ink smudges or debris on the contacts of the cartridges, clean them gently with a lint-free cloth.
3. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Outdated firmware can sometimes cause printer malfunctions. Use the HP Smart App or visit the HP Support website to check for and install any available firmware updates for your printer.
4. Reset the Printer
- Perform a hard reset: turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.
5. Test Using HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor on your computer. This tool can help diagnose and automatically fix common printing and scanning issues.
