HP DeskJet 1112 Printer

Hello!

I have an HP Deskjet 1112 that has printed fine for several years.  All of a sudden it stopped working.  HP  Scan Doctor says everything's fine, but when I hit test print in Scan Doctor nothing prints. If I align the print heads or clean them it prints a page, but nothing else works.

I have removed the printer from my computer, and then uninstalled and re-installed the driver. The documents  show up in the que and say "Printing" (but it's not really printing) and then says "Deleting"  I've unplugged the printer's power cable, unplugged that from the wall socket, unplugged the USB cable from the printer and computer, waited several minutes, plugged everything back in and restarted and have tried everything else I can find.  Everything on my computer  says the printer is ready to go, but nothing prints. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

Hi @Pat10,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Printer Status:

  • Ensure the printer is turned on and connected to your computer. The power light should be steady, not blinking.
  • Verify that there are no error lights on the printer indicating any issues.

Clear Print Queue:

  • Go to Devices and Printers on your computer.
  • Right-click on your HP Deskjet 1112 and select See what's printing.
  • Cancel all pending print jobs to clear the queue.

Paper and Ink Check:

  • Ensure there is paper loaded in the input tray and the paper is aligned properly with the guides.
  • Check the ink levels; if they are low, consider replacing the cartridges.

Reinstall Printer Driver:

  • Uninstall the current printer driver from your computer.
  • Download the latest driver from the HP Support website and reinstall it.

Connection Check:

  • If connected via USB, disconnect and reconnect the USB cable. Make sure it is securely connected.
  • For wireless connections, ensure your network connection is stable and the printer is connected to the correct network.

Align and Clean Cartridges:

  • Perform the alignment and cleaning operations from the printer software to ensure proper functioning of the print heads.

Restart the Print Spooler:

  • Open Services on your computer (you can search it in the Start menu).
  • Locate Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Restart.

Test Print:

  • Try printing a test page from the printer software or HP Print and Scan Doctor to see if the issue persists.

I hope this helps.

Hi @Pat10,

Thanks for giving all the steps a go, really appreciate your patience!

Since the issue persists despite all the resets and reinstalls, let’s try a few advanced troubleshooting steps that may help isolate the cause:

Check for Software Conflicts

Boot your PC into Safe Mode with Networking and try printing a test document.

If it works in Safe Mode, there may be a conflict with a background process or third-party application in normal mode.

Manually Clear the Spooler Folder

Even though the spooler service was restarted, sometimes stuck files inside the folder can cause trouble:

Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.

Scroll to Print Spooler, right-click > Stop.

Navigate to:
C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS
and delete all files in that folder.

Go back to services.msc and Start the Print Spooler again.

Try Printing from Another User Profile or Device

Log in to another user account on the same PC or use a different computer.

If it prints there, the issue may lie with your user-specific printer settings.

Try a Different USB Port and Cable

If using USB, switch to a different port (preferably USB 2.0).

Try a new USB cable if you have one handy — a damaged or low-quality cable can cause intermittent data transfer issues.

Temporary Workaround: Use Windows’ Built-in Driver

Go to Devices and Printers, and click Add a printer.

Select The printer I want isn't listed. Add a local printer.

Choose port USB001 (virtual printer port) or whichever matches.

Select HP on the left and then try using HP Deskjet 990c or HP Universal Print Driver.

Complete the setup and try printing.

I hope this helps.

Hi again, Kouri,

Thanks for giving me additional steps to take to try to get my printer to print.

I went through them all without success, but I appreciate your time and effort.

I got a lot of use out of that printer over the last several years, and think I just have to accept that it's worn out!

Hi @Pat10,

Thank you for your kind words, and I'm really sorry to hear the steps didn’t resolve the issue.

It does sound like your printer has served you well over the years.

If you'd still like to explore repair options, I recommend visiting an authorized HP service center to have it checked by a technician.

You can find the nearest service center using HP’s official locator here:

If there’s anything else I can help with, feel free to let me know!
