I am using a 2778 Deskjet printer. Since a day before, after I send the print command the A4 paper in the printer input tray goes into the printer and gets stuck mid way. The orange light next to the paper jam symbol on the printer starts blinking and E1 error is displayed. On pressing the paper jam symbol, the stuck paper comes out of the printer without anything being printed. A paper size mismatch dialogue appears on my desktop or mobile screen. I have tried troubleshooting options like disconnecting the printer power chords completely and restarting the printer, updating the printer settings for country location and paper size, uninstalling and re-installing the printer hardware and software. Tried printing both from my Desktop through USB cable and wireless from the Desktop and an Andriod and IOS device through WiFI. Nothing seems to help. Would appreciate support from anyone who knows a fix to this issue.

Hi @Someshh99,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The E1 error on your HP Deskjet 2778 indicates a paper size mismatch or paper feed issue. Since you've already tried several troubleshooting steps, here’s a more detailed guide to resolve the issue:
**1. Check Paper Settings
- Ensure that the paper size and type settings on your printer match the paper you are using.
- On the printer's control panel or in the HP Smart app, confirm that the paper size setting is set to A4 if that's what you're using.
- Go to Printer Properties on your computer (Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Right-click on your printer > Printer Properties).
- Under the Paper/Quality tab, ensure that the paper size and type match the paper loaded in the tray.
**2. Inspect Paper Tray and Feed Mechanism
- Ensure the paper is properly aligned in the tray and not exceeding the paper guides.
- Make sure the paper is not wrinkled, bent, or damp, as this can cause jams.
- Open the paper tray and inspect the rollers. They should be clean and free of debris.
- If there’s any dust or paper residue, gently clean the rollers using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water.
**3. Check for Paper Jam:
- Open all access doors of the printer to check for any paper jams or debris inside the printer.
- Gently remove any jammed paper and ensure no torn pieces remain inside the printer.
- Look for any visible obstructions or paper fragments around the rollersUse a flashlight to inspect the printer's interior for any hidden paper pieces.
**4. Update Printer Firmware:
- Check for any available firmware updates for your HP Deskjet 2778.You can find and install updates via the HP Support website.
**5. Reset Printer to Factory Settings:
- On your printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults or similar options.
- This will reset the printer settings to factory defaults and may resolve any configuration issues.
**6. Check Printer Drivers
- Reinstall Drivers:
- Uninstall the current printer driver from your computer (Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Right-click on your printer > Remove device).
- Download and install the latest drivers from the HP Support website.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
