Hi,

I had just finished printing a page and was about to print another when the printer stopped and was showing empty printer cartridges on the display when I have just  fitted 2 XL ones.

Also, there is a small envelope symbol flashing with an ink sign !

I have tried everything from a reset to cleaning the cartridge contacts but with no success.

The printer will not respond to any of the buttons by the display.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks, Skippie.

Hi @Skippie

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

Are you using regular HP ink cartridges or HP Instant Ink cartridges?

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Also, perform step 3 from this document.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi KUMARO 307,

Thanks very much for coming back to me about my printer problem.

I have tried resetting the printer more times than I can remember to no effect !

The printer is acting like a crashed computer with no buttons / actions working at all.

I have taken the cartridges out a few times and cleaned them, again, to no effect.

I am so frustrated as this has been a superb printer.

I have tried HP Doctor to update the Firmware put the update fails.

I am now using instant ink.

Any other ideas gratefully received.

Thanks,

Skippie.
