Hello I purchased a HP Notebook - 14-am034na and have set this up to install all the necessary windows updates. Once that finished I tried to install my newly purchased Deskjet 3700.
During the installation the process hung at "Please Wait" for around 2 hours. I cancelled at that point and inserted the CD that came with the printer. The installation then seemed to complete successfully. No documents would print however.
I then installed the HP Print and Scan Doctor, which downloaded over 120MB of content and ran through the setup again. Once more, no issues presented themselves in this setup, but again, the printer is not functional.
It is connected via a USB, has ink loaded and is switched on (obviously). Upon trying to print a test .pdf, I am greeted with "We couldn't reach this printer. Make sure the printer is on and you are connected to the printer's network or try a different printer."
I am extremely frustrated by this and any help given is gratefully received.

Hello, @Broken-Printer - Hope you are well 🙂

Going through your post, I see that you are having issues while installing your new HP Deskjet printer. I would be glad to help you fix the issue 🙂
I would suggest a clean install to try and fix this issue. This can be done easily by following the steps listed below:
- First, unplug the USB cable from the printer / PC.
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Deskjet printer entries and uninstall them.
- Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
- Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
- Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
- Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
- Restart your computer.
- Now click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/DJ3700_Basicx64_1085.exe to install the software.
- Connect the USB cable only while prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.
Good luck 🙂
