Black ink is not printing well (and sometimes not at all). Lines straight across the page are missing or hard to read. I have tried an alignment, as well as several levels of head cleaning. I have tried putting in a new ink cartridge. I think the problem is that we use the printer so seldom that the head may have dried up, but I'm not sure what to do about that. Out of warrantee a few months ago.  Can I clean it myself? Do I need to take it somewhere? Really don't want to put yet anther new ink cartridge in since they are pricey. Suggestions welcome?

There is nothing much you can do except replacing an ink cartridge. Make sure you use your printer more often, the ink gets dried if not used for printing.

This was happening a month ago and I did all the cleaning recommendations and also replaced the ink cartridge (the new one is the one that is in there now), and it did not solve the problem. hard to read printing from the very first page. I am currently still using it as I thought it might improve with more use, but it has not.
