Hi @Ilivethere,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Error code E8 with five flashing lights on your HP DeskJet 4200 series printer indicates a hardware issue that might not be covered in the standard troubleshooting guide. Here are steps you can take to address this problem:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

Turn Off the Printer:

  • Press the power button to turn off the printer.

Unplug the Printer:

  • Disconnect the power cord from the printer and wait for about 60 seconds.

Plug the Printer Back In:

  • Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on. Check if the error persists.

2. Check for Jammed Paper

Open All Access Doors:

  • Open the paper tray, the cartridge access door, and any other access panels.

Inspect for Paper Jams:

  • Look for any paper jams or obstructions inside the printer. Remove any jammed paper carefully.

3. Check the Ink Cartridges

Reinstall Ink Cartridges:

  • Remove the ink cartridges and then reinsert them. Make sure they are properly seated.

Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges you are using are compatible with your HP DeskJet 4200 series printer.

4. Reset the Printer

  1. Perform a Hard Reset:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
    • Wait for 60 seconds, then plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.

5. Inspect the Printer for Physical Issues

Check for Loose Parts:

  • Ensure that no parts of the printer are loose or out of place.

Inspect the Printer Mechanism:

  • Look inside the printer for any visible issues with the printhead or other mechanisms.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
