Deskjet Ink Advantage 2376
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

I've bought a new printer, the HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2376. I have a MacBook Air, 2013, Big Sur 11.4

Whenever I select for a document to print, the HP Deskjet icon opens, as if it were to print normally, but then quickly closes.

When I run the HP Smart app, it says that it can't find my printer.

I've done the following:
- Reset printer settings
- Uninstalled all HP drivers with the HP Uninstaller. Then cleared the "library" folder from any remaining HP files, and cleared the trash.
- Tried downloading the drivers directly, but the HP website sent me to download the HP Smart application. The HP Smart app says it can't find my printer.
- Downloaded printer drivers directly from the Apple Support page.

- Checked all my cables, restarted computer and both the printer.

What is the solution to this? Does HP even still support this printer/OS and has the appropriate drivers for it?

Thank you

@tiagobuhr, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand you are not able to print from your Mac. Let us try these steps:

Make sure the cable is directly connected between the Mac and the printer.

The use of a USB hub is not recommended. Also, make sure the cable is connected to a USB 2.0 port on your Mac.

Do you have an Anti-virus/firewall installed on the Mac? If yes, disable the same for time being.

To check, select the Go menu on the top of the screen and go to the Applications folder.

  • Check if the printer is getting recognized by your Mac:
  1. From the Apple menu, choose About This Mac.
  2. Click System Report.
  3. Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB.

USB 3 devices appear under USB 3.0 Bus, and USB 2 devices appear under USB 2.0 Bus.

Check for any software updates on Mac

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

If you installed the HP Smart app from the HP site, delete from Users/Username/Library/Application support

Then delete the app in the Applications folder and download the HP Smart app from the App Store.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Done all of the above-recommended suggestions, the HP Smart app still can't find the printer.

On the System Report, it shows under USB 3.0 Bus, BRCM20702 Hub, DeskJet 2300 Series. But I don't use a hub, I connect it directly to my Mac.

What next?

@tiagobuhr

It seems like the connectivity between the devices is fine as the Mac is detecting the printer.

Make sure the macOS is up to date.

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

Did you check for any security software installed on the Mac?

Did you uninstall and reinstall the HP smart app as suggested in the previous post?

If the issue persists, try to set up a USB printer connection with a built-in driver (Mac) as shown in this document.

Let me know how it goes.

1. MacOS is up to date.
2. Haven't installed any new security software, and I've even disabled the Firewall.
3. Yes, I have uninstalled and installed HP software as suggested in the previous post.

I have tried setting up a USB printer connection with built-in driver (Mac), but when it was time to add the printer, on the "Use" dropdown box, as I don't have AirPrint available, I clicked "Select Software", and when searching for my printer model, HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2300 series wasn't shown.

I can either select "Generic PCL Printer", which doesn't solve the problem, or the following list of HP Deskjet Ink Advantage models:

HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 20202 hc Printer
HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2520hc All-in-One

HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2540 All-in-One

HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2640 All-in-One

HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3540 e-All-in-One

HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 4510 e-All-in-One

HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 4640 e-All-in-One

HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 6525 e-All-in-One

HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2376 is not AirPrint compatible. You may select HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2540 All-in-One driver and check if that helps.

If not, I think this issue needs some additional technical assistance that can be better provided through one-on-one interaction or a remote session with our HP Support team.

Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region for further assistance.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
