Hp Envy 4512
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So I see there are tons of people who have this same issue. When I try to print a pdf or Office document my printer does not print in color; yet photos and web pages will print in color.

Here's what I did.

I uninstalled  and reinstalled the printer software and drivers and re-did the set up process. As I am sure you already did as well.

This still didn't solve the problem..... Which is why you are here..

Next I went to settings and selected the HP Envy 4512; clicked manage , printer properties. and under the Advanced tab; clicked the drop down menu for a list of drivers.

Then I saw a driver for an HP printer I do not own. HP Photosmart 6510 series Class Driver

I selected that driver as the default driver and voila!! The option to print in color reappears in the printer properties dialogue box under said printer that I do not own.

I did a few test prints and now I have color documents.

I just had to reset the default printer HP Photosmart 6510 series Class Driver; as my printer no longer shows as an option.

It literally says that in the printer selection drop down menu.

Again; my actual printer is an HP Envy 4512 and I didn't separately download any additional drivers..

I'm not sure if any other driver listed would work such as the Microsoft built in print driver.

Hope this helps.

This post is for anyone who cannot see a color/black white print option at all.

The problem is there is no initial option to select color or black and white; Under properties there is no option to choose gray scale or black and white only.  The print dialog box does not have any option; under any tab or menu to change the color. When going into printer properties there are no options to change the color output. it's not a matter of choosing the right print option. The issue is that there is no option at all.

The option to choose simply is not there. I can't click on something that does not exist.

I found a solution to my issue; which was switching the driver.

I  uninstalled  and reinstalled the printer software and drivers and re-did the set up process. As I am sure you already did as well.
