This worked. Extender arm came out...will see if it works properly from now on. Thank you

Update:  I received a refurbished Envy 4520  printer while my HP 4520 Envy was still under warranty. The extender arm came out, as designed, each and every time. HOWEVER, my software then did not work correctly. I could not access the Printer Settings to change any defaults. I could not change to Color printing, if I wanted to print a photo or anything else in color.

After several LENGTHY calls with very polite support personnel, each one assured me the problem was fixed. I'm sure there were work-arounds, after I allowed them to take over my computer, but I never had a printer operating exactly as it was built to operate.  I alternated between 2 significant software issues. Each time a support employee assured me the current problem was fixed, all they did was revert to the original problem.

I gave up a few months ago, and found the Epson XP-6000 which I installed today. It has a manual arm (yay!), and I have high hopes it will operate as it should. But who knows??

For now, I am finished with HP printers, after having had very reliable HP printers for nearly 18 years.
